The story of Babatunde Raji Fashola in a few lines (with Messi references where necessary):
1. Analysts have said that the brilliance of Messi lies in a very strong defence and feeder players from behind. If you have doubts about that, ever wondered why it's quite hard for him to score in Argentina and quite easy in Barca? Okay. BRF rode on the foundational works of Tinubu.
2. Tinubu saw that it was someone like BRF that could effectively carry on his plans for Lagos (a plan etched and perfected since the Jakande era).
3. BRF got the accolades. Some even dubbed him the Messiah.
4. No wonder Buhari believed in him so much that he made him head three life-line Ministries combined.
5. But like Messi BRF found himself playing in Argentina. The Power Ministry has no foundational work(s) done since these years, same for the Works and Housing he heads.
6. Now BRF would learn the truth behind the great but unappreciated efforts of the Architects and visioneers. Their works are very great but would you know?
7. BRF is working but do you know. Where is the light? Where are the roads?
8. Do you know Messi plays twice as hard on the Argentine team? How would you know? Where are the goals?
9. So next time you tell me how super-human BRF was in transforming Lagos, remember the silent under-appreciated efforts of the Jakande and Tinubu.
10. Next time you tell me how great Messi played at Barca, remember the Xavi and Inniesta and the other great effort-makers whose sweat you won't know. Those guys that made Messi Messi.
For as it has become quite difficult for BRF to show as much sterling performance as he did in Lagos, so does it when Messi leaves Barca to play for Nation. Ironic innit? The same person performing differently in two different scenarios. Life is a bitch!
