It was a beautiful afternoon in the year 2003. A few months after graduating from secondary school, the results were out and Jamb was in view, so instead of sitting at home, my friend Oluwatosin Aluko and I decided to enroll at a Jamb lesson.
We found a very good one after making inquiries around, it was situated inside Bashorun Estate, the venue used was Bloom Foundation School. We paid all the necessary fees and Lessons started, her discipline was science so her class was upstairs while mine was Arts and my class was downstairs. We only saw each other during English Classes, break time and after classes when we had to leave together.
On this fateful day, we left home as usual and on getting to our bus stop at Bashorun, we alighted from the taxi and took our regular shortcut to the lesson, while trekking, a guy passed by on a bike and kept staring at my friend, Oluwatosin, indeed, my friend is truly endowed, I was and still a learner beside her...lool. The guy wouldn't just stop staring at her chest and Tosin told him, 'face your front' 'mother tongue English'.
Immediately we got to were he was, he dragged her and started saying what do we mean, bla bla bla and before we could say anything, he had landed a hot slap on her face, that was how trouble started o, the fight wasn't from this world.
As I was trying to pull and separate them, from no where a very very hot 'igbati oloyi garnished with too much sauce' landed on my face, Olorunoba o, I saw the 9 planets, I screamed, before I knew what was happening, another one, gbosa, I fell to the ground holding my face and screaming 'eti mi to fe di o'. Unfortunately, Tosin didn't even know anything was happening to me, they kept fighting until people came out to separate them and blamed the idiot of a guy for raising his hands on a woman. When the noise was too much, someone from his house opened the gate, lo and behold, his younger sister was our friend, an old classmate from primary school, Bola farinde. She was really sorry for her brother's act but it was too late, my face and ears were on fire with the guy's palm and fingers 'autographed' on my face.
Up till today, I've never separated people when they fight, what happened in 2003 must not repeat itself.
