Some buffoons are asking me to show what I've done for Nigeria before criticizing #hallelujahchallenge, What did Jesus do for Israel when He was here? Nothing! - Olakunle Allison
Insofar as being a Christian means becoming idiotic, robotic, fanatical, superficial, unthinking, uncritical, unquestioning, conforming and gullible, then I AM NOT A CHRISTIAN.
"Test all spirits..."
"Do not be swayed by every wind of doctrine..."
"Do not be conformed to this world..."
These are a few of the warnings Scripture gives to Disciples of Christ. Fanatics in religious houses today embrace virtually all spirits and are swayed by all doctrines; or ideas.
Some buffoons are asking me to show what I've done for Nigeria before criticizing #hallelujahchallenge. Idiots. What did Jesus do for Israel when He was here? Nothing! But those who met him on a personal basis never remained the same.
Those who have felt my impact know themselves. Not all impacts are televised. Not all impacts are on Twitter and in hashtags. Morons!!
There's a canopy cloud of deep darkness hovering over the 21st Century Church. Especially the Pentecostal/Evangelical churches. Power is absent, so they go to the marketplace of ideas; shopping for anything to keep the show going and sustain its momentum. And the slippery slope is telling.
No one cares about Truths anymore. Our focus is on Trends.
* The Showbiz world has #dancechallenge. The Church has #hallelujahchallenge (even when nothing is a challenge about praise).
* The Church never used to have Red Carpet events until Hollywood modeled it.
* The Church never used to host Football Viewing until it became a worldwide phenomenon. Some churches now run Live English & Italian League matches under the guise of soul-winning.
* The Secular Entertainment organises Awards and then Churches too followed.
* The World has Millionaires' Clubs. Some Churches queued behind the concept.
* The World has Comedians. The Church too has paid Jokers.
* Even now, some folks are already thinking of a Christian Night Club.
Why must the Church play copycat? Why must there always be the Christian version of a secular idea? The reason is simple;
* POWER IS ABSENT.
And this power is ONLY found in the gospel of Christ. Romans 1:16. When power is gone, SELF-HELP and COPYCATISM must take over. And then the slippery slope continues. The Modern Church is the master of slippery slopes. Very soon we might have;
#tithechallenge. #tongueschallenge. #givingchallenge. #evangelismchallenge. #prayingchallenge. #faithchallenge. #prosperitychallenge. Etc.
You cannot escape it; where Power is absent, Trend must replace Truth.
Let's keep up our religious hashtags. Who knows, they may soon give us our first astronauts and put Nigeria on the moon. They may soon put an end to the endemic cultures of impunity, dishonesty and corruption. They may soon improve our ailing education. They may soon decrease our mortality rate. They may soon improve our currency value. Etc.
Until we become a country of individuals enjoying a religious experience but collectively miserable.
#truthissacred.
Selah.
