Secondly, a colleague of mine had contested for the 'Young CEO Award' in my citadel of learning. Voting was done online and you have to like the page and mention his name in the comment section to vote. This colleague of mine tagged me to the post and solicited for my votes. This is not the first time he would contest in school. In fact, he had contested as Best Photographer of Campus in another category sometime ago, but lost out by a close margin. However, the story was not to be the same this time around. We all rallied round him to ensure that he clinched this award this time around. Surprisingly, he "thanked God" for his success and overlooking our human efforts we'd put in to ensure his emergence. Not a word of gratitude to those who waste their MB and precious time to vote him.
Now, back to the first guy who was given an appointment. While I waited to see the litany of names this participants should ordinarily acknowledge given their efforts and resource put in to ensure his appointment, such list to my discombobulation never came.
Now, here is the thing. I always try to get the logic of thanking God when it is man that has done the thing. And I just can't get it. When other participants tried to puncture his perceived insensitivity, a Christian sister came to starch his warped argument with these Biblical verses.
1Cor 2:6 [ISV] "However, when we are among mature people, we do speak a message of wisdom, but not the wisdom of this world or of the rulers of this world, who are passing off the scene.
2 :7 [ISV] "Instead, we speak about God’s wisdom in a hidden secret, which God destined before the world began for our glory.
2:13 [ISV] "We don’t speak about these things with words taught us by human wisdom, but with words taught by the Spirit, as we explain spiritual things to spiritual people.
2:14 [ISV] "A person who isn’t spiritual doesn’t accept the things of God’s Spirit, for they are nonsense to him. He can’t understand them because they are spiritually evaluated.
2:15 [ISV] "The spiritual person evaluates everything but is subject to no one else’s evaluation.
One more translation:
1Cor2:13 [EasyEnglish] "These are the things that we speak about. We do not use human ideas that other people have taught us. Instead, we use ideas that God’s Spirit teaches us. That is why we can explain God’s ideas to people. But we can explain only to people in whom God’s Spirit is living.
2:14 [EasyEnglish] "If God’s Spirit is not living inside people, they cannot receive anything from God. They cannot understand what God wants to teach them. They think that it is crazy. They think that it is worth nothing.
2:15 [EasyEnglish] "Only people with God’s Spirit inside them can really understand and decide about all things. But people without God’s Spirit cannot understand anything about God’s people."
Well, to cut the long story short, this sister is soliciting our support for something very important and urgent. This time, it has to do with us voting for her online. I have referred her to meet people with God's spirit already
Moral of the story: People should learn to appreciate their efforts and human efforts of others. When that mechanic fixes your car, thank him.
When your Lawyer wins your case, thank him.
When that plumber fixes the leak in your sink, thank him.
When a Doctor conducts an operation on you, learn to thank him before you "Thank God". If you must thank God, then be ready to join God in the suit when the Doctor is negligent.
