I have realized that there's a remarkable difference between people who work for their money and those who became overnight moneybags. You'd see it in the way and manner they spend and in what they choose to spend the money on.
I believe that this has a great deal to do with the dignity in labour. In other words, when you make a honest but modest living rather than being the beneficiary of an instant fortune, you'd tend more towards modest spending and massive investing. That's you'd spend less and invest more. It's just the fact.
If you deny the veracity of my claim, just watch millionaires (or billionaires) who built their fortunes from rock bottom; who through honest and good thinking made their millions as opposed to men who either became rich by luck/lotto or stumbled upon wealth. You must notice something different about what they buy and how they buy.
Yesterday, I entered a mall to get something for dinner. As I traversed the Grocery I picked my meals for the night and made my way to the Cashier. Upon approaching the Cashier, I saw these young and unkempt looking boys who looked like they just came out of a prison break. Yes, they looked indecent.
They were having fun as they cracked jokes and laughed. In front of them were chilled bottles of Heineken. By my rough estimate, almost a hundred bottles. They were about to have a drink feast. In fact, they already started popping some of the bottles in the grocery. Laughing and poking each other.
Judging by their physical appearances and demeanors I was very certain that these young boys have no honest and decent source of living. They couldn't have. Joblessness and irresponsibility were written all over them. And trust me, I'm not the type who looks down on people, but something wasn't right about the fashion sense and social skills of these boys. I mean, who pops bottles and starts gulping inside a grocery?
My hunch told me that they were either Yahoo boys or they recently came in contact with free money. No boy within their age bracket would make a decent and honest income and then spend it on hundred bottles of Heineken. Surely not if it was a salary or proceeds of good thinking.
Free money knows no discipline.
I cannot imagine myself getting a brief after much efforts and hustling and my first mood will be to pop a hundred bottles.
Someone may say maybe they're celebrating the reward of their hard work. But those who build wealth exercise discipline even in celebrating hard work. They celebrate wisely and not wantonly.
I can spot Money-Accidents and True Wealth from miles away. Just observe their spending habits and financial culture. It's that simple.
