When you solve a lot of problems, nature has a way of not making you solve yours - Onyeka Nwelue

Morning, witches and wizards! We will talk about Entitlement Mentality of Nigerians today.

The online definition states, “An entitlement mentality is a state of mind in which an individual comes to believe that privileges are instead rights, and that they are to be expected as a matter of course.

Let me quickly add that it is the deadliest mindset of all. For so many reasons.

Lots of times, I have met these acquaintances whose only reason of waltzing into our lives is to have what we have, enjoy the little things they have seen from afar that we enjoy and somewhat, be like us. They are sometimes called Champagne Friends, according to Obinwanne Okeke. Psychologists believe this is a mental illness, but then, we also have these 'family members' and 'old friends' who, on seeing that you are progressive than them and more successful, begin to find ways to belabour you. They try so hard to find ways to make you return to the old ways, by telling you of all their problems, so you can solve them. When you solve a lot of problems, nature has a way of not making you solve yours. People's problems become a part of you and they begin to weigh you down. Instead of you to think of your personal progress, you begin to trouble yourself about what people will eat. Or wear. Or where they live.

This is where the Entitlement Mentality sets in to destroy those who give and those who take, become everlasting takers.

People with Entitlement Mentality tend to make it all about themselves. Hey, they want you to do this and that for them, but they are not willing to do anything for you. They are usually aggressive, though. They inconvenience others without thinking. They make plans with friends and then bail on those plans without considering that their friend may have organized other plans around fitting them in. They are usually the ones to say, "I'm sorry, I will be busy on that day." When they eventually need you, they forget they once bailed on you and start saying things like: "You can't be there? That's bad. You can't help me with the money? Ah, that's bad." They exist and they are everywhere.

People with entitlement tendencies come in two types - (1) those who feel ashamed of their tendencies and feel motivated to change, and (2) those who see no reason to change.

People with entitlement mentality are usually ingrates. They will never talk about the good things you did for them in public. They only massage your ego in private so they can get more. They will never tell others how amazing you are. They will only share the bad things you've done to them or the things that make you flawed. When they don't get the things they want from you, they feel crushed and defeated and begin to look for ways to harm you.

Remain calm. These people are always around you. Remove all sentiments and take a cursory look at the things you can do to yourself to become greater and ditch these folks! They are not needed in your life. They are leeches. They can exist without you.

And they love failure. It makes them happy .
