A letter to my future wife - Femi Ojikutu

Dear future wife,

In the build up to our wedding day, a lot of old men and women who're unhappy in their marriages will hover around you; giving you advice on how to have a happy home, on how to stay married forever – by enduring all the hardship that you face

Many of them will tell you; cook ten times a day like mama poot, please him in bed like an Italian whore, do his laundry and cleaning like his house maid, bear him a dozen male children like (Jacob's wives); and he will be yours till death do you part

My advice to you darling, is simple: don't take counsel from any of them; don't allow yourself to get married with the slavery kinda mindset; don't allow yourself get stained with their philosophy of what a wife's function is.

Avoid letting them build second class citizen thoughts in your heart – relegating you to being a deputy instead of the other lover on duty. Avoid guidance that'll make you a competitor rather than a partner in progress.

'cos in their hearts of heart, they know there is no secret to a happy marriage; that in fact the secret to a happy marriage will always remain a secret to those whose marriages are built on love and sacrifice.
