After-all, I was still applying for admissions abroad, undecided of what country to go to, but they already had their matric numbers.
I have been with people who suddenly achieved higher than I did, and felt that I was no more of same league with them.
An average Nigerian suddenly hits money, and immediately changes his or her sets of friends.
A poor man suddenly hits money, and feels his wife is no more good enough for him.
I have had a few opportunities to stay in same immediate environment with a few Caucasian millionaires and billionaires. On ALL occasions, these people were so simple I needed someone to tell me their worths.
A Nigerian with just half the wealth of each of these people will bring down the roof before they step in anywhere. Everyone there has to bow to them in worship.
So, I laugh whenever I hear a Nigerian tell me shit about humility.
I have lived about three decades on earth, lived and travelled to a number of countries, and I have come to the conclusion that Nigerians are amongst the proudest and most arrogant people on earth.
There's a reason I try to blow off your ears (or reading eyes) chanting "I'm proud". It's because I love to sting the hypocritical Nigerian.
Humility is NOT a Nigerian thing. Fake humility is what Nigerians practice.
Our society is filled up of people with FAKE or conditioned humility.
A vast majority of Nigerians are NOT humble. Life made them humble.
A person who graduated with a pass from a University or college, or probably doesn’t have a degree, and earns less than can afford him or her an average standard of living, and probably have a messed up life can not sell me the humility tale.
You know why?
Such a person has NOTHING to be proud of.
How many successful Nigerians are not proud?
Very few.
WE Nigerians are by default a proud bunch. Most people who feign humility have been life conditioned to be humble. They have nothing to be proud of.
Given a little success, you will see them swollen in pride and arrogance.
There's nothing wrong with being proud, but there's everything wrong with being a hypocrite.
You call her proud and arrogant, but if you attain half her success, you will be convinced you rule the world.
I dare say that at least 95% of so called humble Nigerians have absolutely nothing to be proud of.
For me though, everyone knows I'm not humble. Just give me a little more time to achieve more success, so that I can be a real Nigerian and block your ears further.
No, you aren't necessarily more humble than I am, you've just got very little or nothing to be proud of, or you are faking your humility with the hope of getting a reward for being humble.
I so HATE it when a Nigerian tells me to stop being proud. It irritates me I want to punch them.
Very very very few Nigerians are humble.
Since we know we are proud, let's stop faking the humility. Let's just accept ourselves for what we are. Pride is a Nigerian culture.
