The attitude/statement that really grinds my gears these days is the one that blames the victims of exploitative pastorpreneurs. They are labeled naive, gullible and stupid but they are not the stupid ones.
I am an outspoken anti theist because I hate what religion has done to Nigeria with a passion. But it is not the gullible victims I am mad about - I cannot blame them. It is the educated often religiously moderate elite who suffer from a complete and utter failure of leadership that pisses me off beyond words!
It's only in Nigeria that you want all the spoils but none of the responsibilities. We love to blame the government and tag our favorite scapegoat "corruption" but it was not the government in other countries that brought about freedoms such as the right to vote. No government wakes up one day and decides to give women the right to vote - no. Some educated woman gets up one day and starts a movement. It is not the government that decides we should protect the environment or give civil rights to a disenfranchised minority. Nope. Some educated person gets up one day and starts a movement. Its not the government that decided to accommodate the needs of its special needs citizens - nope some educated person gets up one day and starts a movement.
Now before you go bitching about the impossibility of getting things done in Nigeria- let me just stop you there. I know u know where there is a will there is a way but this is even bigger than that. This is about the fact that you do not even believe you have any responsibility whatsoever towards the working class and uneducated citizens of your own damn country!!!
It is not the illiterates that brought that stupid self destructive gospel of prosperity to Nigeria- it was you! You were the ones with the Kenneth Hagin books, and your shiny new religion with its bells and whistles!
Now it has been hijacked and used to torment the masses but all you have for them is that they are gullible?
Let me tell you how this thing called Nigeria works. We destroy people's livelihoods - we take away their farms, and their rivers and their ability to raise cattle. We interrupt their way of life for the benefit of the country. Only they never actually benefit though do they? It is we the sons and daughters of the ruling class who benefited at their expense.
Before this gospel of ineptitude, this gospel of greed and selfishness, this gospel of morons and assholes. Our educated class did fight for us. Great leaders like Funmilayo Ransom Kuti who helped to fight for Nigerian women's right to vote.
Meanwhile under your watch ritual killings have spiked thanks to the ugly religion you recklessly imported. Child abuse and neglect too. The exploitation of the poor. Countless needless deaths because superstition has replaced common sense. (The minister of health actually had to start an awareness campaign because of the persistent belief that epilepsy is always spiritual!) Fear is pushed into the atmosphere daily by pastors and nollywood and u do nothing!
Who the hell is TB joshua that he is still left standing? He is nobody. He can be brought down faster than a deck of cards! The problem isn't the insurmountability of the problem- the problem is the ownership of the problem!
You did this to them. You cannot tell me you are a Christian and then continue to ignore this problem. If you want ideas we can come up with them together. But i better not hear u utter any more nonsense about the gullibility of the masses. That is what it will always be. The real problem is that you fail woefully to see your role as an educated elite in the solution of the problem.
