So I read that one popular OAP in attempt to defend the 'island people' in the current banter arising from the flooding over the weekend had this to say:
"There are 3 24 hour pharmacies alone in (lekki) phase 1...you mainland people should develop your mainland too. Your inferiority is showing...". (paraphrased).
This leaves me confused because I have two questions before articulating my position.
First question: Did you swim to get your meds? (that's if the pharmacy was open)

Second question: Did you write this on social media because you couldn't get your meds?
To the extent that this OAP is known to me,(by name Debo Alonge means she's one of the senior ones. I stopped listening to Nigerian radio since 2010.
I remember she worked for a station that had high quality content coming from high quality OAPs. Oreka and Olisa gave me the best moments of Nigerian radio. Tolu 'Toolz' was good as well.
This OAP in particular I never really followed probably because I never found her content engaging enough.

I acknowledge that having spent as much years as she has on radio, she must have followers. But those of them on the mainland have just been thrown under the bus by her comments. To that extent, she needed to have been wiser. But we all know wisdom isn't found on radio these days.
Being a veteran on the radio scene one expects that when she takes positions, those in authority must listen. In that case, she must have battles she's fighting. Just that in this case, she's fighting a wrong battle.
By saying that mainlanders should develop their area too, she's saying the island is developed. While I am not one of those abusing people government for the flood, I am disappointed they didn't anticipate it and move people to evacuation zones. Anticipation and preparation is the hallmark of developed societies, and to the island wasn't ready for what happened, one really has to question where the OAP got her notion that the island is developed from.
Unless she's defining development solely by the cost of living on the island, which to try sounding modest, will still make one sound stupid.

And to return to her battle charge that mainlanders should develop their mainland, I have this to say: it is the same Lagos state government we have. Abi you no know?
Coming to the point about inferiority showing, I think it's a classless and underdeveloped reaction to flooding on the island. Seems people like that OAP think anyone and everyone living on the island is better off than those ones the mainland. The accuracy of her stupidity couldn't be more astounding.
There are a lot of choice areas in Lagos mainland where people don't have to worry about flooding no matter how serious the rain is. To extend the point further, those who work on brands know that the psychographics of the Nigerian consumer is more important than her demographics, and I'll explain why. Marketers and brand specialists know that someone may be living in Mowe or Mushin, yet his socioeconomic profile is that of someone who should be on the island.
While this post doesn't advocate that people should gloat about living on the mainland particularly during a period of flooding, this reaction from this beneath the standards expected of someone with a public profile.
She and Ben Bruce need to enrol in a commonsense academy, and what she did is a classic example of why I gave up on listening to Nigerian radio.
